Guitar Playing Techniques
Are you looking to take your guitar playing techniques to the next level? If so, this article can give you some ideas to think about. There are many different ways that a player can get a sound out of a guitar! Some techniques such as alternate picking are fundamental to playing the guitar. Other techniques such as sweep picking or tapping are more exotic. My main concern with creating this page is to make you aware of the various guitar skills that are available. Hopefully I can inspire you to try some of them out! Through trial and error you'll gradually discover which techniques work for you. Very important... as I said above, there are techniques that are fundamental to playing the guitar. These are the ones that should be your main focus. Especially in the beginning. Most of the guitar playing techniques that I discuss here have free video tutorials and tips to get you started. See the menu on the Homepage. If you've looked over my article on basic scales you may remember my love/hate relationship with them. I have a similar view on technique! The point is, you want to play music, right? Scales and technical development do have a place in your musical life. Especially in the first couple of years. They can help you progress to where you can express yourself better on the guitar. I just don't want anyone to spend too much time and energy in these areas once a solid skill level starts to take shape. Besides, after a certain point you can develop your guitar playing technique by playing music. It's up to you... That's actually one of the main functions of this website. Music is both simple and complex at the same time. Especially nowadays with the overload of information available. What should you learn? How much time should you spend working on certain areas? If you spend enough time studying the pages on this site, you'll soon be able to make those decisions for yourself. You'll be able to sort through all the information out there to find that gold amidst all the chaos. You'll avoid many of the pitfalls and frustrations lots of players encounter. Your chances of success will be greatly improved :-) If you already know which techniques you're interested in, great! Otherwise, I'd suggest starting with alternate picking and guitar strumming patterns. See guitar playing tips for more advanced technical ideas. I hope you found this article useful for your guitar playing journey. Best in guitar and Life, Dave Return from Guitar Playing Techniques to Articles
