About Free Guitar Lessons Online
Free guitar lessons online is a website created and owned by Dave Yeager. So just who-the-heck is Dave Yeager and why is he qualified to help you learn and master guitar? Great question, and I'm glad you asked! Truth is, I've encountered many more victories, setbacks, trials and tribulations than outlined in the "Reader's Digest' version below. But here goes! sidenote: I'm what could be considered a "self-taught" guitarist -- at least in the beginning stages. When I decided to pursue guitar seriously as a profession, I took some lessons to prepare myself for the Humber Jazz audition. I wanted to insert this sidenote in case you may think that you don't have what it takes to play guitar as well as you'd like. Maybe someone like myself had some kind of "advantage." Not true! I can recall most details of all the many learning stages I've gone through -- and am still going through -- with the guitar. I approach teaching my students the same way I have approached teaching myself over the many years I've studied music and the guitar. All I can say is, if you really want it, you can do it! There is no magic shortcut. Progress comes through consistent and intelligent effort. You may even encounter setbacks along the way. But you, as a human being, have unbelievable potential to tap into! Enjoy the journey and stay true to yourself. btw, I've also included a couple of photos at the bottom of the page. I hope that this -- along with all the guitar lesson videos and written instructions -- should give you a pretty good sense of what I'm about :-)
I'm a professional guitar player, singer and musician from Toronto, Canada. As a child, my biggest musical influence was my mother. She was a soloist in some good Church choirs as a young woman, and she would often accompany her beautiful singing voice with our piano at home. My family would always gather around the piano at Christmas for sing-alongs. My maternal grandfather was an excellent snare drummer, playing in a top notch pipe and drum corps for many years. He showed me some snare drum rudiments and I used everything from the kitchen table to a cutting board as my practice pad. I'm not a very good drummer, though ;-) At age 7, I started fairly intense classical piano lessons that lasted until I was about 13. My 1st teacher was well known in the area (Ottawa), and she got me performing in numerous recitals, festivals and competitions. I did really well -- either winning or placing 2nd a number of of times -- even though I was more interested in playing hockey. In high school I joined a rock band. We played at my high school and a couple of community events. Me and another member also co-wrote a song and entered and won a large local Talent Show. This only served to fuel my passion for pursuing music even more! After high school -- and other adventures -- I moved to Toronto and auditioned for the Humber College Jazz program. This is known to be one of Canada's top music programs -- and there were well over 100 guitarists auditioning for 20 spots as guitar majors. I got accepted into the program. I knew that it was a Golden opportunity to study and play with some of Canada's finest musicians -- so I worked my proverbial butt off. I graduated with Honours 4 years later, with an award from the president of the College for my top marks. For quite a few years after that I did all kinds of gigs! Some for my passion and some just to help make ends meet! Original rock in the top Toronto clubs, solo spots at downtown hotels and cafes, local television and radio spots, private parties, New Years Eve and Christmas functions, wedding ceremonies, cover band gigs, singer/songwriter gigs, and some studio sessions on electric guitar. But if there's one thing that's been a constant -- and something I truly love -- it's been teaching people how to play a guitar! Starting out in music stores at first, I later ventured out on my own. I've now had my own highly successful private guitar teaching biz in Toronto's east end since 1999. And I'm very passionate about making all my experience and love for guitar playing available to you right here on this website. I live a 5 minute walk from the shores of Lake Ontario in Toronto's east end with my unbelievably talented, beautiful and supportive wife. My days are abundantly filled with creating guitar lessons, practicing guitar, writing songs, recording, and also teaching private students. My plans for the future? To say "in tune" with the Universe to the best of my ability and be happy in the present moment. And to continue working hard to expand and utilize my abilities as a musician and teacher. Continue being a great husband to my wife.
Me in my studio at home circa '07 or '08. I think I'm gonna grow my hair again ;-)
That's me performing at a Halloween gig on the Danforth ( Avenue) in Toronto's east end in Oct. 2010. My costume was a "rock star back-from-the-dead." Gee, I wonder what chord that is I'm fretting?
Dave Yeager Trivia: At the age of 16, Dave was invited by the elite Belleville Bulls Major Junior A hockey team to attend training camp. He was "whoomped" by a guy who outweighed him by about 60 lbs. Getting up slowly from the ice and shaking the cobwebs from his head, Dave knew he didn't want to play hockey seriously anymore! Dave's cousin -- Stewart Gavin -- was a starter in the NHL for Toronto and Dallas for many years. Back To Free Guitar Lessons Online Homepage.
